Opportunity cost of the gender gap in pensions and pension savings

The report, carried out in collaboration with ClosingAP and MAPFRE, is a pioneering work that analyze retirement from a comprehensive perspective: public pensions, private income, wealth and the cost of dependency.

Some conclusions from the analysis:

  • Women receive about 508 euros less in contributory pension per month and this inequality has a economic cost for the country as a whole: 28.5 billion euros per year, 1.8% of GDP, and nearly 500,000 uncreated jobs.
  • La Gender inequality also leads to dependency: women live longer, but with worse health and less economic resources. From the age of 80 onwards, the cost of care doubles the average female pension.
